Rebel Wolves shipped Hotfix 1.0.4 on September 9, 2026, six days after launch and roughly 36 hours after the 1.0.3 DualSense-on-Steam patch. This is the most quest-focused patch of the launch window so far. The headline summary lists five items — improved stability, fixed several quest progression issues, fixed a save blocker, fixed the Steam-only GameInput FPS drop, and the famous red-pipe asset is finally gone — but the full changelog is larger and more interesting than those five bullets suggest, because the quest fixes hit exactly the kind of soft-locks and infinite-loading states that were keeping players from finishing the campaign in their first playthrough.
The change list below is reproduced from the official Rebel Wolves patch notes (linked via PSU’s mirror of dawnwalkergame.com) and cross-checked against The Daily Game News’s coverage of the same patch.

What players will actually notice
The save-game blocker is the headline. Players on PC, PS5, and Xbox reported that their save button would silently fail after certain triggers — most commonly after dying during the prologue boss fight against Brencis. The fix lands in 1.0.4 and the studio has explicitly said it is not retroactive; saves created before the patch remain unrecoverable in that state, so anyone sitting on a broken save should reload a pre-prologue checkpoint rather than wait for a back-port.
The quest fixes are the bulk of the patch. “On the Run” had an infinite loading screen that bricked progression after a cutscene; “Deep Down” trapped Coen inside a cave with no exit; “Smoke and Ashes” had an investigation step that the journal marked mandatory but the game didn’t actually gate, so players could move on without doing it but the journal still told them they hadn’t. All three are now resolved. “A Lone Wolf’s Hunt” showing the wrong difficulty label is a smaller fix but it matters for trophy / achievement hunters who screenshot their difficulty choice.
The red pipe asset finally getting pulled is the patch note line players will quote most. The “we are no longer using that one red pipe asset we weren’t supposed to use” wording is a direct acknowledgment of a launch-week meme, and the studio leaned into it deliberately.
